Bio:
Yancey Thigpen was born on August 15, 1969, in Tarboro, North Carolina. After playing college football for Winston-Salem State University, Thigpen was drafted by the San Diego Chargers in the fourth round of the 1991 NFL Draft. He only spent one season with the Chargers, never recording a reception, before moving on to play for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Thigpen found a home for six seasons with the Steelers, playing with the team from 1992 to 1997. He broke out in a big way during the 1995 season when he amassed 1,307 receiving yards on 85 receptions and was named to his first Pro Bowl. After missing most of the next season because of injury, he posted another Pro Bowl season in 1997: 79 receptions for 1,398 yards. He helped lead the Steelers to a Super Bowl in 1995 and did the same in 1999 with the Tennessee Titans. Thigpen finished his career in 2000 with 313 career receptions, 5,081 career receiving yards, and 30 career receiving touchdowns.
