Bio:Shawn Green was born on November 10, 1972, in Des Plaines, Illinois. Green had an outstanding high school baseball career at Tustin High School, collecting an impressive 147 hits during his senior year. He received a scholarship to play baseball at Stanford University in 1991, but was also selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 1991 MLB Draft. Instead of trying to decide between the two, Green was able to make an agreement with Toronto that allowed him to attend Stanford during the off-season.
Green made his major league debut in 1993 with Toronto, but it was not until 1998 that he saw consistent playing time. He responded in 1998 by batting .278 with 35 home runs and 100 RBIs; these were major accomplishments, for at that time Green was not known as a power hitter. He proved that his offensive output was no fluke in 1999 when he hit 42 home runs, drove in 123 RBIs, and hit .309.
Green has spent 15 seasons in the MLB, playing for Toronto, the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Arizona Diamondbacks, and the New York Mets. Even though his power numbers have declined as of recent years, Green has still shown that he is a very capable hitter. His career totals include a .283 batting average, 328 home runs, 2,003 hits, 1,070 RBIs, 1,129 runs scored, and 445 doubles.
