Peter Forsberg Career Biography and Statistics

Peter Forsberg was born on July 20, 1973 in Ornskoldsvik, Sweden. He began his career in his native Sweden playing for the junior affiliate of MODO Hockey in 1989 and made his debut with the main club that same season. Forsberg then put together an impressive year the following season (1990-91) and was promptly drafted with the sixth overall pick by the Philadelphia Flyers of the NHL in 1991. However, Forsberg stayed with MODO until partway through the 1994-95 season.

Forsberg’s debut in the NHL was delayed due to a lockout at the start of the 1994-95 season, but he was still able to play in 47 games. He made his debut not with the Flyers, the team that drafted him, but with the Quebec Nordiques, due to being involved in a trade before he even stepped onto NHL ice. The Nordiques became the Colorado Avalanche in 1995-96, and Forsberg exploded for 116 points and helped the Avalanche win a Stanley Cup title. He spent eight more seasons with Colorado, winning another Stanley Cup in 2001 and scoring over 100 points one more time (2002-03). He has spent the rest of his career with MODO Hockey (during the lockout in 2004-05), the Philadelphia Flyers, and Nashville Predators. Although hampered by numerous injuries throughout his career, Forsberg is still known as an excellent player on both sides of the puck. A two-time Olympic gold medalist, he has career NHL totals of 871 points, 623 assists, and 28 goals in 697 games played.
