Bio:
Michael Vick was born on June 26, 1980 in Newport News, Virginia. He showed his amazing athletic ability at a young age by putting together a very impressive high school career. Between Homer L. Ferguson High School and Warwick High School, Vick was known as a dual threat quarterback who could beat you with both his arm and his feet. He attended Virginia Tech to play football on a scholarship and put together an excellent, but brief, college career. His first year as a starter came in 1999, and he made the most of it by leading the nation with a 180.4 passer rating and leading Virginia Tech to the BCS national title game. Vick also finished 3rd in the voting for the Heisman Trophy and was named a First Team All-American. Vick decided to leave college after the following season (2000) and enter the NFL Draft.
The Atlanta Falcons made Vick the 1st overall pick of the 2001 NFL Draft. He played in 8 games during his rookie season and threw for 785 yards while also rushing for 300 more. He became the Falcon’s starting QB in 2002 and was very impressive with 2,936 passing yards, 16 passing touchdowns, 777 rushing yards, and 8 rushing touchdowns. From that point, Vick has been recognized as one of the most exciting players in not only the NFL, but in all of sports. In six seasons, Vick has been named to three Pro Bowls, has passed for 11,505 yards, and rushed for 3,870 yards (3rd best in NFL history).
However, Vick’s future in the NFL might be finished due to being convicted in 2007 on charges of operating and financing illegal dog fighting. He has been indefinitely suspended by the NFL and faces a maximum of 5 years in prison. In addition, Vick has admitted to participating in gambling related to the dog fighting. He could potentially face a lifetime suspension from the NFL due to his gambling practices
