Carlos Delgado Career Biography and Statistics

Bio:
Carlos Delgado was born on June 25, 1972, in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. A talented young player, he was pursued by multiple MLB clubs in 1988. Delgado eventually decided on the Toronto Blue Jays and signed a free agent contract with the club in 1988. However, he did not make his major league debut until the 1993 season when he appeared in only two games. Delgado did not play consistently until 1996 when he batted .270 with 25 home runs and 92 RBIs. This turned out to be a sign of things to come as Delgado exploded over the next few years and has established himself as one of the most feared sluggers in baseball.

Delgado played at Toronto through the 2004 season before spending one year as a member of the Florida Marlins in 2005. He has spent the last two seasons as a member of the New York Mets, seeing a slight drop in his production totals in 2007. Nonetheless, Delgado has hit 40 or more home runs three times in his career, 30 or more home runs ten times, and has driven in over 100 RBIs eight times. He is a two-time All-Star, three-time Silver Slugger, and recipient of both the Hank Aaron and Roberto Clemente Awards. Delgado’s career totals through 2007 include 431 home runs, 1,374 RBIs, 444 doubles, and a .280 bating average.
