Brett Favre Career Biography and Statistics

Brett Favre was born on October 10, 1969, in Gulfport, Mississippi. He started his sports career at Hancock North Central High School, playing both baseball and football. He played on the varsity baseball team while in eighth grade and played numerous positions on the football team including quarterback, lineman, and punter. He was unable to display his great arm, however, due to his school having an excellent running game. Due to this, Favre was offered only one football scholarship from the University of Southern Mississippi (USM).

Upon arriving at USM, Favre learned that the school wanted him to play defensive back. Favre disagreed because he wanted to play quarterback, and he was granted his wish as USM’s seventh string quarterback as a freshman. Even with being so low on the depth chart, Favre became the starter during his freshman year and ended up having a solid and memorable college career.

Favre was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons with the 33rd overall pick of the 1991 NFL Draft. His career at Atlanta was extremely brief; he played in only two games and attempted only four passes. Favre was traded to the Green Bay Packers before the 1992 season and has spent the rest of his career so far with the Packers. While with Green Bay, Favre has established himself as one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history. From 1993 through 2006, Favre has started every game and thrown for over 3,000 yards and 18 touchdowns every year. He is a two-time NFL MVP, eight-time Pro Bowler, and a two-time Super Bowl champion. He currently ranks first all-time in career pass attempts, completions, passing touchdowns, and he ranks second all-time in career passing yards.
